The model's disappearance and its reproduction

by Frederique Nalbandian
curated by Enrico Pedrini
April 14 - May 2, 2008, On View 24/7

Frederique Nalbandian latest installation involves dissolving powdered soap through nylon mesh nets suspended from the ceiling, then collecting the drippings in round rubber basins placed below. Defined as "a game that lies somewhere between an object's disappearance and its reproduction", the meditative rhythms and processes of her art reflect the ongoing 'metaphorical evocation' of life itself. The loss of materiality is recovered and re-proposed as an artistic process. It is an idea expressed in matter, which through its physical manifestation, produces an emotionally charged anthropology that is both intelligent and intense.
